The part-time Field Worker will work with the PI and team to support a study funded by the National Cancer Institute. This project examines real-world tobacco advertising exposure and attitudes towards tobacco products among non-tobacco using young adults in Washington, DC. Work schedule is flexible up to 16 hours per week. This position is a temporary position. This position may be extended until April 2018. 

Responsibilities include field work to tobacco retailers visited by respondents to obtain photos of tobacco advertising, processing of study photos, and management of study data.

  • Field work to various tobacco retailers visited by study subjects in Washington, DC and collection of photographic surveillance of tobacco marketing
  • Ability to closely follow the study protocol and accurately document store visiting
  • Familiarity and comfort with mobile phone data collection
  • Familiarity with Washington DC neighborhoods and transportation options are a plus
  • Flexibility to travel between retailers in varying weather conditions
  • Process photos collected in stores;
  • Crop stores photos for advertising;


Candidates should have a minimum of 1 years of experience in an applied research setting, ideally working directly in tobacco control or related area of substance use. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Public Health, or related field. Candidates must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be experienced working in a research team, and can work independently. Previous experience with field work, and data management using Qualtrics, and/or Excel are a plus. Training provided on data collection, photo processing, and store routing. This job requires excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

WORK DURATION: July 2017-December 2017
